What it is: The project is focused on two aspects, one is synergy between industrial and academic entities and the second one is research on “Knock Combustion” phenomenon. The first aspect is related with secondments between academic and industrial entities which are involved in project realization. The second aspect directly refer to research on knock combustion. Knock combustion is the abnormal combustion phenomenon which occurs during combustion process in the internal combustion reciprocating piston engine. This phenomenon is dangerous not only for the engine itself but also has influence on toxic exhaust gases pollution to environment. Within this project both the academic and industrial partners try to find methods for knock combustion reduction and finally prevention with use of several innovating tools such as: CFD modeling, flame visualization. All theoretical assumptions and simulations are verified during engine tests which have been conducted on test stands equipped with engines used in CHP (Combined Heat and Power) systems.
